Falcon Field (MSC)

Falcon Field (KFFZ) is a public general aviation (GA) reliever airport located in Mesa, Arizona, United States. It is owned and operated by the City of Mesa and serves as an alternative for civilian and military aviation to reduce traffic at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

• Location and Runways: Falcon Field is situated in northeast Mesa, approximately 14 miles east of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The airport features two active asphalt runways: Runway 4R/22L, which is 5,100 feet long, and Runway 4L/22R, measuring 3,800 feet.

• Uses: The airport supports a variety of aviation activities, including business, recreation, and extensive fixed-wing and helicopter flight training. It is home to over 800 based aircraft and hosts more than 130 on-airport businesses providing aviation services such as maintenance, avionics, fueling, and aircraft manufacturing. Falcon Field consistently ranks among the most active general aviation airports in the U.S.

• Historical Significance: Established in 1941 during World War II, Falcon Field originally served as a military airport to train British Royal Air Force and American pilots. After the war, the federal government deeded the property to the City of Mesa in 1948, and it has since operated as a municipal airport. The Falcon Field World War II Aviation Hangars were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
