🇺🇸 Chino Airport

Chino Airport (KCNO (CNO)) is a county-owned public general aviation airport located three miles southeast of Chino, in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It is classified by the FAA as a reliever airport, serving to reduce congestion at larger commercial airports like Ontario International Airport and John Wayne Airport. Chino Airport is the largest non-commercial airport within a 20-mile radius in its region.

The airport features three asphalt runways:

• 8R/26L: 7,000 feet by 150 feet
• 3/21: 4,919 feet by 150 feet
• 8L/26R: 4,858 feet by 150 feet

Chino Airport serves a diverse range of uses, including private owners, corporate users, flight instruction, and aircraft maintenance. It is a leading center for aircraft restoration and preservation, hosting numerous companies dedicated to these services. The airport is also home to two prominent historic aircraft museums: the Planes of Fame Air Museum and Yanks Air Museum, which collectively house nearly 300 warbirds and vintage aircraft. Additionally, it supports cargo movement, charter services, and military operations.

Historically, Chino Airport, originally known as 'Cal-Aero Field,' played a significant role during World War II as the site of the Cal-Aero Flight Academy. This independent flying school trained over 10,300 military pilots for the United States Army Air Forces. After the war, it was used for the storage and disposal of hundreds of surplus combat aircraft. The airport was also utilized as a filming location for the 1946 film "The Best Years of Our Life" and the 1960s television series "12 O'Clock High."
