Capital International Airport (CCE, HECP) is an international airport serving Egypt's New Administrative Capital, located approximately 45 km (28 miles) east of Cairo. It was built concurrently with Sphinx International Airport.
Type of facility and operations: The airport has a main building covering 5,000 square meters (54,000 sq ft) and land facilities designed for a capacity of 1 million passengers per year, with the ability to expand. It aims to serve the public, petroleum companies, private jets, and air taxi flights. The airport includes a passenger terminal with a current capacity of 300 passengers per hour, eight aircraft parking spaces, 45 service and administrative buildings, and an air traffic control tower. It has a 3,650-meter (11,980 ft) paved runway suitable for large aircraft, equipped with lighting and automatic landing systems. The airport also has customs and immigration services.
Notable features or history: The airport was inaugurated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. It opened for a one-month trial period on July 9, 2019, with commercial operations commencing in 2020. Hassan Allam Holding was the main contractor, and it is operated by the Egyptian Airports Company and owned by the Egyptian Armed Forces. Its construction was intended to partially alleviate pressure on Cairo International Airport and Sphinx International Airport.
Current status: Capital International Airport is operational and open to the public. It is operated by the Egyptian Airports Company.
