Maio Airport (IATA: MMO, ICAO: GVMA) serves Vila do Maio, CV. It has 1 scheduled routes to 1 destinations in 1 countries, operated by 1 airlines.
- Quiet and Uncrowded: Maio is described as a "forgotten island" with "very limited tourism," suggesting the airport is similarly uncrowded and peaceful.
- Proximity to Vila do Maio: The airport is only a few kilometers from Vila do Maio (Porto Inglês), the main town, making transfers quick and easy.
- Easy Transportation: Upon arrival, alugueres (local vans) and taxis are readily available to take passengers to their destination.
- Essential Amenities: The Cabo Verde Airlines MMO Terminal is noted to have a comfy lounge, food options, ATMs, and currency exchange.
- Domestic Flights Only: There are no international flights departing from Maio; travelers need to connect through Praia for international travel.
- Limited Flight Options: Maio Airport has non-stop passenger flights scheduled to only one destination, Praia (RAI), with only one airline (BBN Airlines) operating this route seasonally.
- Potential for Long Check-in Lines (General Cape Verde Experience): While not specific to Maio, a traveler's experience at JFK for a Cape Verde flight noted long check-in lines even with online check-in, and the need for paper tickets at security. This could indicate a general procedural aspect of Cape Verdean air travel.
- Visa/Airport Tax Processing: A traveler at a different Cape Verde airport experienced long waits for families paying airport tax upon arrival who had not registered ahead of time. While the EASE online portal exists for pre-payment, it can be unreliable, and third-party services like Bu Country Tours may be needed.

Bottom line: Maio Airport appears to be a suitable entry point for those seeking a tranquil and authentic Cape Verdean experience on the island of Maio, provided they are aware of its domestic-only status and limited flight connections.
