Taxis

Official taxi stands are clearly marked at both Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) airports. Follow the signs in the arrivals hall to the designated queues. Fares are metered. Ride-hailing services like Didi Chuxing are also widely available, with designated pickup areas at both airports.

Rental Cars

Major international and local car rental companies (e.g., Hertz, Avis, eHi Car Services) have counters at both PVG and SHA. IMPORTANT: To rent and self-drive in China, you must have a Chinese driver's license. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not sufficient on its own. A popular alternative for visitors is to hire a car with a private driver.

Public Transportation

Shanghai has an extensive public transit network connecting both airports.

Shanghai Pudong (PVG):
- Maglev Train: The world's fastest commercial train, connecting PVG to Longyang Road Metro Station in about 8 minutes.
- Metro: Line 2 connects directly to the city center and Hongqiao Airport.
- Airport Buses: Numerous shuttle bus lines serve key destinations across Shanghai and nearby cities.

Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA):
- High-Speed Rail: Hongqiao Railway Station, one of China's largest, is integrated with Terminal 2, offering connections to cities across the country.
- Metro: Directly served by Line 2 and Line 10, providing excellent access to the city.
- Airport Buses: A comprehensive network of bus routes serves the Shanghai metropolitan area.
