Taxis are available for hire at the airport. The journey to the main city of Chamdo is very long (around 130 km) and typically takes 2 to 2.5 hours. Fares are usually negotiated upfront and can be expensive due to the distance. For most foreign travelers, transportation is pre-arranged by their tour agency.
Standard self-drive car rental services are not available at Qamdo Bangda Airport. Travel regulations in the Tibet Autonomous Region require foreign visitors to hire a private vehicle with a licensed driver and guide, which must be arranged in advance through an authorized travel agency.
An official airport shuttle bus service operates between the airport and the main city of Chamdo. This is the most economical option. The bus schedule is coordinated with flight arrivals and departures, and the trip takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
