Ground Transportation
Taxis
Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals hall. The ride to the downtown area (Tunxi District) takes about 15-20 minutes. For longer distances, such as to the Huangshan Scenic Area (Tangkou Town, approx. 1 hour), it is common to negotiate a flat fare with the driver. Always use the official taxi queue to ensure a metered and legitimate ride.
Rental Cars
Self-drive car rental is generally not a viable option for most international tourists, as a valid Chinese driver's license is required. International Driving Permits are not recognized. The main alternative is to hire a private car with a local driver. This service can often be pre-booked online or through local travel agencies and hotels.
Public Transportation
There are several bus options. Airport shuttle buses run routes to the city center (Tunxi District) and directly to the base of the Huangshan Scenic Area (Tangkou). Additionally, local City Bus Route 19 offers a very inexpensive connection to the city center and Huangshan Railway Station. Shuttle services also connect the airport to the Huangshan North Railway Station for high-speed train access.
