Komodo Airport (IATA: LBJ, ICAO: WATO) serves as the primary air gateway to Labuan Bajo and the surrounding West Manggarai Regency on the island of Flores, Indonesia. Its strategic importance is directly linked to its proximity to Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it the main entry point for tourists visiting the famous Komodo dragons and the region's renowned diving and snorkeling destinations. The airport plays a crucial role in the local economy, facilitating the significant growth in tourism that the area has experienced.

Originally a small, basic airstrip, the airport underwent a major transformation to accommodate rising visitor numbers. A new, modern terminal building with a design inspired by the traditional Manggarai house was inaugurated in 2015, significantly enhancing its capacity and passenger comfort. In 2022, its status was officially elevated to an international airport, positioning it for future growth and direct overseas connections.

Located just 2 kilometers east of Labuan Bajo's town center, the airport is exceptionally convenient for travelers. The journey to most hotels and harbor areas typically takes only 5 to 15 minutes by car. Access is straightforward, with official airport taxis, private car hires, and app-based ride-sharing services readily available just outside the arrivals hall.

Komodo Airport primarily handles domestic flights, with frequent connections to major Indonesian hubs, particularly Denpasar (Bali) and Jakarta. Key airlines operating routes to LBJ include Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink, and AirAsia. While designated as an international airport, regularly scheduled international services are still developing, and the vast majority of traffic remains domestic. The single, modern terminal building is equipped with essential facilities for travelers, including check-in counters, a comfortable departure lounge with air conditioning, several small cafes and restaurants, souvenir shops, and ATM services. There is also a small executive lounge available for eligible passengers.

For a smooth travel experience, it is advisable to arrive 90 minutes to two hours before a scheduled domestic departure, especially during peak tourist seasons when the small terminal can become crowded. Transportation into town is easily arranged upon arrival, but agreeing on a fare before starting the journey is recommended for taxis. Most travelers use Labuan Bajo as a base for boat trips, and the airport's close proximity to the harbor makes for a quick and simple transfer.
