Tho Xuan Airport (IATA: THD, ICAO: VVTX) is the primary air gateway to Thanh Hóa province, a rapidly developing region in Vietnam's North Central Coast. Functioning as a mixed-use public and military airport, it plays a crucial role in connecting the province to the country's main economic and tourism hubs, significantly boosting local commerce and accessibility for visitors exploring destinations like Sam Son Beach and the Ho Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Originally a military facility known as Sao Vang Airbase, the airport began civil operations on February 5, 2013, with an inaugural flight from Ho Chi Minh City. While officially designated an international airport in 2021, its operations are predominantly domestic, with occasional international charter flights. Located in Sao Vang town of Tho Xuan district, the airport is approximately 45 kilometers west of Thanh Hóa city, a journey that typically takes 50 to 70 minutes by car. Travelers can access the city via several ground transportation options available outside the terminal, including taxis, pre-booked private cars, and airport shuttle buses that also serve nearby tourist areas.

The airport features a single, modern passenger terminal designed for efficiency. Inside, facilities are functional and cater to essential traveler needs. Passengers will find check-in counters, baggage claim areas, and ample seating in the departure lounge. Amenities include a few cafes and food stalls offering light meals, beverages, and snacks, as well as small shops for last-minute souvenirs and convenience items. For eligible passengers, Bamboo Airways operates a business lounge.
