Official metered taxis are available 24/7 at designated stands. Follow signs in the arrivals hall (Terminal 1, Gate 8) to the taxi queue, where you get a ticket from a machine. Fares are calculated by the meter, plus a 50 THB airport surcharge and any expressway tolls. Ride-sharing services like Grab are also available for pickup at designated points.
Several major car rental companies, including Avis, Hertz, Budget, Sixt, and Thai Rent A Car, have counters in the arrivals hall. It is advisable to book in advance, especially during peak seasons. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is generally required along with your valid home country's driver's license and a credit card.
The SRT Red Line commuter train offers a fast connection from the airport to Bang Sue Grand Station, a major hub for the MRT subway and long-distance trains. Air-conditioned airport buses (Routes A1-A4) provide direct service to key areas, including Mo Chit BTS/MRT Station (A1), Victory Monument (A2), and Khao San Road (A4). Local public buses are also available for a more budget-friendly option.
It always amazes me that a major airport could possibly have a golf course between the runways!
Where else in the world but for Thailand!!!
This field opened for military use in 1914, and received its first airline flights in 1924. It was a major US airbase during the Vietnam war, as well as Bangkok's main civilian airport until the new Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) opened in 2006. It's currently a joint-use military civilian airport, hosting the Royal Thai Air Force's 1st Air Division.
