Kulhudhuffushi Airport (IATA: HDK, ICAO: VRBK) is a domestic airport serving Kulhudhuffushi City, the capital of Haa Dhaalu Atoll in the northern Maldives. It provides a crucial air link for residents, businesses, and tourists, significantly reducing travel time to the nation's capital, Malé, and connecting the region to the country's main international gateway. The airport plays a vital role in the economic development and accessibility of the northern atolls, which were previously reliant on lengthy sea journeys.

Inaugurated on November 15, 2019, the airport is a relatively recent addition to the Maldives' transportation infrastructure. Its construction involved a significant land reclamation project on the northern side of the island, reclaiming a portion of the local mangrove ecosystem to accommodate the runway and airport facilities. The first test flight successfully landed in August 2019, paving the way for its official opening. The airport's development marked a milestone in connecting the remote northern communities with the rest of the country.

The airport is conveniently located on the island of Kulhudhuffushi itself, just a short drive from the main city area. This close proximity makes access straightforward for travelers. Taxis are the primary mode of transportation to and from the airport, with the journey to most guesthouses and city locations typically taking less than 15 minutes. Visitors should consider arranging transfers through their accommodation for added convenience.

As a domestic facility, Kulhudhuffushi Airport handles scheduled flights exclusively within the Maldives. The national airline, Maldivian, is the principal operator, providing regular services to and from Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. These routes are typically flown using turboprop aircraft, such as the Dash-8, suitable for the airport's 1,220-meter runway. The airport does not serve international flights.

The facility consists of a single, modern terminal building designed for functional efficiency. Inside, travelers will find essential amenities including airline check-in counters, a security screening area, and a departure lounge with seating. The terminal also houses basic restroom facilities and a small kiosk for light refreshments and beverages. Given its size, there are no executive lounges, extensive retail shops, or full-service restaurants.

For a smooth travel experience, passengers are advised to arrive 60 to 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time. As dining options within the terminal are limited, it is practical to have a meal before heading to the airport. Travelers connecting to other islands in the Haa Dhaalu Atoll should coordinate their onward boat transfers in advance, as these are not directly integrated with airport operations.
