🇮🇳 Raichur Airport

Raichur Airport (VORR) is not currently operational for commercial flights. It is an upcoming greenfield airport project in Raichur, Karnataka, India, designed to boost regional connectivity. Construction is actively underway, with local officials anticipating completion by a future date, possibly by the next Dasara festival or 2027. The historical airstrip at Yeramus, around 10 km from Raichur city, was abandoned after World War II and is now being redeveloped into a low-frills airport. Therefore, there are no recent traveler reviews or experiences available for this airport as it is still under development.

The project received administrative approval for its Detailed Project Report (DPR) in March 2022 and environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests in April 2025.

What Travelers Can Expect (Upon Future Opening):

• Improved Regional Connectivity: The airport aims to enhance air travel options for the Kalyana Karnataka region, which has historically faced challenges due to inadequate transport infrastructure.
• Low-Frills Domestic Facility: It is being developed as a domestic airport under the regional connectivity scheme (UDAN), suggesting a focus on essential services and affordability.
• Modern Infrastructure: The master plan includes a terminal building, security provisions, a local police post, and a 1,800-meter to 2,500-meter runway suitable for ATR-72 sized aircraft.
• Economic Growth: The airport is expected to attract investments, promote tourism, and facilitate better movement of goods and people in the region.

Current Status and Nearest Operational Airport:

• Under Construction: As of November 2025, the terminal building, ATC (Air Traffic Control), compound wall, and support buildings are largely complete, with most structural work over 70% finished.
• No Commercial Flights: There are currently no operational flights to or from Raichur Airport.
• Nearest Major Airport: Travelers currently wishing to reach Raichur by air typically use Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad), which is approximately 190 km away and offers connectivity via various airlines. Taxis and buses are available from Hyderabad to Raichur.

Once operational, Raichur Airport is poised to significantly improve accessibility to the region, catering to approximately 0.15 million passengers per year.
