Notable Features and History: The airport is spread over 130 acres, with a terminal building of 1150 square meters capable of handling 70 incoming and 70 outgoing passengers. It has one domestic boarding gate. The single runway, 12/30, is 1,463 meters (4,800 feet) long with an asphalt surface,. Historically, it was used for government flights, air force exercises, and training flights. Commercial flights were suspended in April 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Current Status: As of April 2025, Ludhiana Airport continues to operate with regular flights by FlyBig to Ghaziabad. Flybig is currently the only airline operating scheduled flights to and from Ludhiana to Hindon. The airport's operational hours for the aerodrome operator are Monday-Friday 0400-1230 UTC (0930-1800 IST), with no operations on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays. There are plans to open a new passenger terminal at the Indian Air Force's base at Halwara, 34 km southwest of Ludhiana, by May 15, 2025, which may lead to the closure of Sahnewal airport for commercial operations.
