Bihta Air Force Station Airport serves Patna, IN.
Bihta Air Force Station (VEBT) is an Indian Air Force (IAF) base located in Bihta, Bihar, India. It is situated approximately 40 kilometers (20-22 miles) southwest of Patna, the state capital, and covers an area of around 900 acres.
This facility is primarily a military airfield, functioning as a care and maintenance unit for the Indian Air Force, operational since 1964. It supports airfield upkeep, operational readiness, and provides infrastructure for temporary detachments and training, playing a role in air defense preparedness in eastern India.
The station features a runway, identified as 10/28, with an asphalt surface and a length of 2,500 meters (8,202 feet). There are plans to extend the runway to 12,000 feet (3,660 meters) to accommodate larger aircraft.
While it is an active military base and not a private strip, an international-standard civil enclave is under development by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Bihta Air Force Station. This civil enclave is intended to serve as a second airport for Patna, with a new terminal designed to handle an initial capacity of 5 million passengers per annum, expandable to 10 million. The project has received government approval, with construction work awarded in March 2025. Historically, the airfield was used by the British Army during World War II for assembling and test-flying combat gliders.
