Common Complaints

• Challenging Flight Conditions: The airport is known for tricky downdrafts and turbulence due to a nearby 700-foot mesa, especially with strong west or south winds. It's a one-way in (runway 16 uphill), one-way out (runway 34 downhill) strip with no reasonable go-around once on short final due to the cliff south of the airport. Pilots must also be aware of density altitude.
• Limited On-Field Services: There are no fuel, airframe, or powerplant services directly at the airport. Pilots must plan accordingly, sometimes requiring diversions for fuel.
• Increased Fees: As of September 15, 2025, Monument Valley has significantly increased its fees: $175 for day parking, $300 for overnight parking, and a $100 landing fee. These fees are waived for guests staying at Goulding's Lodge for two or more nights.
• Prior Permission Required: Landing at UT25 is on private land, and prior permission is required by contacting Goulding's Lodge (phone or email with aircraft details and insurance).
• Parking Limitations: While there's a gravel tie-down area, pilots should bring their own tie-down ropes as fixed anchor points are limited in paved areas. The paved parking is reserved for commercial aircraft, with other aircraft directed to dirt parking.
