Alameda County Parking Garage Heliport serves Oakland, US.
The Alameda County Parking Garage Heliport (US-9655) in Oakland, US, was shut down in October 1968 due to declining usage and neighborhood noise complaints.
Completed in December 1963 atop the Alameda County Parking Garage, the heliport began commercial flights on March 1, 1965, and was notable as the nation's first rooftop heliport. It served as a hub for San Francisco and Oakland Helicopter Airlines, providing service between Oakland and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), among other Bay Area destinations. While the operating airline, SFO Helicopter Airlines, ceased operations in 1976, the landing pad remains on the Alco Park garage, with a top elevator button still marked 'H'. Although aerial photos from 2015 onwards no longer show the heliport symbol on the roof, an illuminated windsock frame was still present in 2022.
