Walcott Airfield (US-8822), also known as Walcott Auxiliary Army Airfield #3, was built between 1941 and 1943 during World War II. It served as a satellite airfield for Walnut Ridge Army Airfield, supporting the 50,000 Pilot Training Program,. The airfield featured a 4,500-foot hard-surfaced runway.
The airfield was abandoned between 1955 and 1958, appearing as an "Emergency Landing Field (Abandoned)" on a 1958 USGS topo map, and was no longer depicted on charts by April 1964. Today, the property is owned by Arkansas State University, which leases the farmable land. The "ghosted" outlines of its two runways are still recognizable from aerial photos.
