🇺🇸 Remagen Airstrip

Remagen Airstrip (US-8047) is a military training facility located at Fort Stewart, Georgia, near Claxton, US. It is not a private ranch airstrip, agricultural strip, or personal-use airport, nor does it have scheduled commercial service.

• Facility Type and Use: The airstrip functions as a military assault landing field primarily used for tactical training. It allows C-130H Hercules aircraft to perform short-field take-offs and landings on a dirt airstrip, as well as supporting jump training for Army and Air National Guardsmen.
• Runway Information: Remagen Airstrip features a 5,000-foot dirt runway.
• Historical Significance: Constructed in the early 1960s, the airstrip fell into disuse in the 1990s. It was revitalized in the early 2000s to train Air Force personnel in landing cargo planes on rough, unpaved airstrips for operations in areas like Iraq and Afghanistan, becoming an important "assault landing field on the East Coast." The drop zone's name, "Remagen," honors the World War II battle where American forces unexpectedly captured the Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine.
