Peard Bay DEW Line Station Airport serves Peard Bay, US.
The Peard Bay DEW Line Station (US-6376), also known as LIZ-C, was an Intermediate ("I") site in the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line, established in 1957. Its purpose was to monitor low-level airspace as a "Gap Filler" for other DEW Line sites. The station ceased operations and was shut down at the end of the summer season in 1963 because its AN/FPS-23 radar system became obsolete due to technological advancements.
The associated Peard Bay Airport (WQJ) was built in 1956-1957 to support the DEW Line station and has remained largely abandoned since the station's closure. The site underwent environmental remediation as part of "Operation Clean Sweep," which involved razing structures and was completed in 1998. While the airstrip retains its FAA Identifier WQJ, it is no longer listed as operational.
