Roswell Municipal Airport / Roswell Auxiliary Army Airfield Number 9 serves Roswell, US.
Roswell Municipal Airport, also known as Roswell Auxiliary Army Airfield Number 9 (US-5513), was one of nine auxiliary landing fields supporting the larger Roswell Army Airfield during World War II, utilized for overflow and training traffic.
The airport served as the initial commercial airport for Roswell, with Continental Air Lines operating flights starting in 1940, followed by Trans-Texas Airways from 1963. It closed between 1966 and 1968, specifically in 1967, when all commercial air operations were relocated to the former Walker Air Force Base, which had itself closed on June 30, 1967, due to defense budget cuts during the Vietnam War.
As of 1981, aerial views and topographic maps indicated that the former Roswell Municipal Airport site, located at the northwest corner of the city, remained largely intact with runways, taxiways, ramps, and hangars, labeled as "Abandoned Airport."
