Bender-Brentwood Airport serves Brentwood, US.
Bender-Brentwood Airport (US-5399), originally known as Central Islip Airport, was established around 1929 and renamed in 1933 after Harry Bender took over its operations. Located in Brentwood, US, the airport consisted of 33 acres, featuring two unpaved runways and at least one hangar. It served as a commercial/municipal airport, offering flight training, aircraft rentals, and hangar space. Notable operations included housing various small planes like Biplanes, PT-19s, and Curtis Robins, and even a rare Command-Aire biplane.
The airport closed between 1955 and 1957. According to oral history interviews, a devastating fire in the late 1950s destroyed all the airport buildings, including Bender's house on the property, which ultimately led to its closure. By 1966, all traces of the airport were erased and the site was covered by other buildings. As of 2005, the former airport site was being used as a storage yard for the Long Island Power Authority, with no remaining visible traces of the airport by 2014 aerial photos.
