Common Complaints

• Extreme Remoteness and Lack of Services: Mexican Mountain Airstrip is exceptionally remote with no roads leading directly to it, meaning no traditional terminal facilities, amenities, or services like fuel or restrooms. Travelers must be entirely self-sufficient.
• Strict Wilderness Regulations: As it lies within a Wilderness Study Area, no motorized vehicles, tools, or even bicycles are permitted on or around the airstrip. Pilots are encouraged to follow "Leave No Trace" practices and use WAG bags.
• Challenging Landing Conditions: The airstrip presents specific challenges, including a slight uphill slope to the west, potential soft or damp spots on the eastern portion, and tall trees (30+ ft) along the runway that pose a hazard, especially when landing downhill to the east. Density altitude can also be a factor for departures.
• No Parking or Transportation Connections: There is no designated parking in the traditional sense, and due to wilderness restrictions, no ground transportation connections are available. Access is strictly by air or foot.
