Naval Air Station Livermore serves Livermore, US.
Naval Air Station Livermore (US-2797) was established in 1942 during World War II, primarily to train naval aviators and alleviate overcrowding at naval aviation facilities in Oakland, California. It served as a critical training facility, graduating approximately 4,000 cadets by October 1944, and also supported fleet aircraft servicing, storage, repairs, and reservist training. The station was deactivated in stages after the end of World War II and fully decommissioned by 1946.
On January 5, 1951, the former naval air station was formally transferred to the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and repurposed in 1952 as the site for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Many of the original air station buildings and infrastructure are still utilized by the laboratory today.
