Waller Airfield serves Johnson City, US.
Waller Airfield (US-1752) appears to be incorrectly identified as being located in Johnson City, US. Research indicates that Waller Air Force Base, also known as Waller Army Airfield, was a United States military installation located in northeastern Trinidad, British West Indies (now Trinidad and Tobago).
This airfield was activated in September 1941 as part of the U.S. military buildup during World War II to counter Axis threats in the Caribbean. It served as a defensive outpost for local oilfields and shipping, and a crucial refueling and maintenance hub for transatlantic aircraft ferrying operations to North Africa and Europe. Post-World War II, it was redesignated Waller Air Force Base in March 1948 but closed on May 28, 1949, due to postwar budgetary cutbacks and the shifting of Military Air Transport Service (MATS) operations to the Panama Canal Zone. After its closure, the site transitioned to civilian aviation uses. In the 21st century, the former airfield site was repurposed as the Tamana InTech Park, a science and technology research facility.
