Marlboro Airport serves Marlboro, US.
Marlboro Airport (US-12520), also known by its FAA LID 9B1, operated in Marlborough, Massachusetts, from 1922 to 2019, making it the oldest continuously operating commercial airfield in the state.
The airport officially closed in 2019 following its sale in December 2018 to Capital Group Properties for approximately $1.9 million to $2.25 million. Owner Sandra Stetson decided to sell after operations declined and the airport became unprofitable, particularly after her husband's death in 2012. A contributing factor to its decline was a 2010 lawsuit over runway damage caused by President Obama's Secret Service motorcade; settlement funds were not used for repaving the runway, further impacting the airport's viability.
Historically, Marlboro Airport began as a landing field in a cow pasture and grew to offer flight instruction through entities like Don's Flying Service, as well as providing aircraft maintenance and ferry operations. It also served as a hub for the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 673, and the Antique Airplanes Association. Currently, the site is being redeveloped into the Airport Industrial Park, with plans for 12 to 13 industrial buildings.
