During World War II, the airport significantly expanded, serving as a base for both the Army and Navy. It was officially designated the U.S. Naval Auxiliary Air Station in June 1943. After the war, it returned to civilian control, and the City of Arlington assumed ownership in February 1959. The airport continues to operate today, with a master plan for future development.
