The airport was closed sometime between the late 1990s and mid-2000s. It was last depicted on the 1993 Omaha Sectional Chart, and while a 1999 aerial photograph shows the runway was still clear, a 2008 photograph shows the land had been fully converted to agricultural use.
While not officially documented, the closure is characteristic of a private airfield ceasing operations. The most likely reasons are the owner's retirement from aviation, death, or an economic decision to revert the land to a more profitable agricultural purpose. The complete conversion of the site back to farmland strongly supports this conclusion.
The site of the former Olsen Airport has been completely reclaimed and is now used as active agricultural land. Satellite imagery of the coordinates shows cultivated fields, and there are no remaining visible traces of the runway, hangars, or any other airport infrastructure.
Olsen Airport (also known as Olsen Field) was a small, private airfield of local importance. It was not a public-use facility and had no historical, commercial, or military significance. Its primary function was to serve the general aviation needs of its owner, listed as M. Olsen in the 1980s. When active, it featured a single 2,600-foot unpaved turf runway (17/35) and would have handled light, single-engine aircraft for personal or agricultural use.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening Olsen Airport. The land has been fully integrated into the surrounding farmland. The general aviation needs for the Missouri Valley area are adequately served by the nearby Missouri Valley Municipal Airport (ICAO: KAVQ), making the reopening of this former private strip unnecessary and highly unlikely.
