Okemah Flying Field

The airport was closed and replaced by the current Okemah Municipal Airport (ICAO: KF81, FAA: F81), which was constructed at a new site northwest of the city. The original airfield was likely too small and not suitable for the expansion or modernization required to meet contemporary aviation standards.

The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped and shows no visible traces of its aviation past. The land is now occupied by residential streets and homes, commercial buildings, and open fields, fully integrated into the southeastern part of the city of Okemah.

The location corresponds to the original Okemah Municipal Airport, which served as the primary airfield for the city from at least the early 1930s until its closure. It was a general aviation facility, appearing on 1930s and 1940s aeronautical charts with two unpaved runways in a 'T' or 'L' configuration. It supported private and commercial light aircraft operations for several decades. It is important to note that the ICAO code 'US-11234' is not a standard or recognized historical identifier for this airport; it was likely designated simply as 'Okemah' on historical charts.

There are zero prospects for reopening this airport. The land has been repurposed for urban development, and the city of Okemah is adequately served by the active and more modern Okemah Municipal Airport (KF81).
