The airport was closed sometime between 1972 and 1977. It was last depicted on the 1972 Little Rock Sectional Chart and was no longer present on the 1977 edition of the chart.
The specific reason for closure is not officially documented. As a small, privately owned airfield, the most probable cause was economic factors, the owner's decision to cease operations (due to retirement, death, or selling the property), or the land being repurposed for more profitable agricultural use, which was common for such fields.
The airport site has been completely converted into agricultural land. The former runway area is now an active, cultivated farm field. Modern satellite imagery clearly shows a large center-pivot irrigation system has been installed directly over the location of the former airfield, completely obliterating any remaining physical traces of the runway.
Goacher Airport had local, minor historical significance as a typical mid-20th-century private general aviation airfield. It was established between 1963 and 1965 and served the local aviation community. Operations consisted of private recreational flying and potentially agricultural aviation from its single, unpaved north/south runway, which was approximately 2,200 feet long. It was never a major commercial or military facility.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Goacher Airport. The land has been fully reclaimed for agriculture, and the presence of significant farming infrastructure makes its conversion back to an airfield highly improbable.
