Kelly's Field

The airport was a private airstrip located on agricultural land. The most probable reason for its closure was economic. The owner likely ceased aviation operations and returned the land to its primary purpose of farming to maximize its agricultural yield. There is no evidence of closure due to an accident, military conversion, or regulatory action.

The site has been fully reclaimed for agricultural use. Current satellite imagery shows the land where the runway once existed is now actively plowed, planted, and harvested as part of the surrounding crop fields. A very faint outline of the former north-south grass runway is sometimes visible depending on the crop stage and lighting, but no airport infrastructure such as hangars, lighting, or markings remains.

Kelly's Field was a small, private-use airstrip. Given its location in a major agricultural region (Red River Valley), its primary function was almost certainly related to farming operations. It was likely used for agricultural aircraft (crop dusters) and/or for the personal and business transportation of the farm's owner. Its 'significance' was limited to serving the private needs of its owner rather than the general public.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Kelly's Field. The land is privately owned and is being used for profitable agriculture. The existence of the nearby Grafton Municipal Airport (KGAF), a public-use airport with paved runways and services, serves the needs of the local aviation community, making the re-establishment of this private strip highly unlikely.
