Lowells Landing Airport

The airport was a private-use facility, and its closure was directly linked to the death of its owner and operator. This is a common reason for the closure of small, private airfields that are tied to a single individual.

As of recent satellite imagery (2023), the physical site remains largely intact. The grass runway is still clearly visible and appears to be mowed and maintained, as is the surrounding property. A building, likely the original hangar, still stands at the south end of the runway. The property is privately owned and is no longer a registered or charted airport.

Lowells Landing Airport, which held the FAA identifier 3IN6, was a private general aviation airport. Its significance was not national or commercial, but rather personal and local, serving as the home base for its owner. When active, it featured a single turf runway designated 01/19, with dimensions of approximately 2200 by 100 feet. Operations were limited to light, single-engine aircraft typical of private recreational flying. It appeared on aeronautical charts and in FAA directories for a period, serving as a known private landing area for those with permission to use it.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Lowells Landing Airport as a public or officially registered private facility. Any future use for aviation would be entirely at the discretion of the current property owners and would require re-registration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
