Gwinnett Department of Public Safety - Police Heliport

The Gwinnett County Police Department's Aviation Unit was disbanded, and its operations at the heliport were suspended in 2013 due to significant budget cuts and the high cost of maintaining its aging fleet of two Bell OH-58 military surplus helicopters.

The heliport is currently **OPEN and fully operational**. While the identifier US-10606 from some unofficial databases lists it as closed, this information is outdated. The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners voted to reinstate the Aviation Unit, and it officially returned to service in April 2019. The heliport, which has the official FAA Location Identifier **GA31**, is located at the Gwinnett County Police Headquarters and now serves as the base for the department's modern Bell 407GXi helicopter.

The heliport served as the exclusive base for the Gwinnett County Police Department's Aviation Unit. When active, this unit was a critical asset for public safety in one of metro Atlanta's largest and most populous counties. The helicopter crews provided essential aerial support for ground officers, including searching for fleeing suspects, locating missing persons, conducting surveillance, and providing an overhead command-and-control perspective during major incidents.
