Approximately mid-2010s. Satellite imagery shows the runway was well-maintained until around 2015, after which it began to be farmed over. The likely owner and operator, James A. Reid, passed away in 2019, marking a definitive end to the airfield's operational life.
The airport was a private Restricted Landing Area (RLA). Closures of such airfields are typically due to the owner ceasing operations for personal reasons (e.g., retirement, health) or upon their death. The land was subsequently fully converted back to its primary agricultural use.
The site is currently active farmland. High-resolution satellite imagery clearly shows that the former north-south runway area has been plowed and is used for crop cultivation. The faint outline of the strip is still visible from the air, but it is no longer a functional runway. The residential home and outbuildings, including one that likely served as a hangar, remain on the property.
Reid RLA was a private turf runway (designated 18/36, approximately 2200 ft long) used for personal general aviation. It was owned and operated by James A. Reid, a local farmer and pilot from nearby Hampshire, IL. The airfield served as his personal base for recreational flying with light, single-engine aircraft. It held no commercial, military, or significant public historical importance; its function was purely private.
None. The land has been fully repurposed for agriculture. As a privately owned airfield whose operator is deceased and whose runway no longer exists, there are no plans or prospects for it to ever reopen as an aviation facility.
