Circa 2004-2005
The airport was closed due to real estate development. The land, located in a rapidly growing area of North Fort Myers, became more valuable for residential use. The airfield was sold to developers and subsequently replaced by a housing community.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped. It is now a residential subdivision named 'The Landings at Bayshore'. The former runway and airfield grounds are now occupied by single-family homes, streets (such as Landing View Road and Eagle Talon Court), and retention ponds. There are no visible remnants of the airport infrastructure.
Eagle's Landing Airport (formerly FAA LID: FA54) was a privately owned, private-use general aviation airfield. It was established sometime between 1980 and 1994. The airport featured a single unpaved turf runway, approximately 2,600 feet long, oriented in a NNE/SSW direction (approximately 02/20). It served local recreational pilots and their small, single-engine aircraft. As a private field, operations were restricted and required prior permission from the owner. It was never a commercial or military facility and held no major historical significance beyond serving as a local hub for a small number of aviation enthusiasts before the area's residential boom.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been fully and permanently converted to high-density residential use, making a return to aviation operations impossible.
