Cholla Airport

Presumed to be abandonment following cessation of private use. As a small, unpaved private airstrip, its closure was likely due to the property owner no longer needing it, selling the land, or no longer operating an aircraft. There is no evidence of military conversion, economic failure of a public entity, or a specific accident leading to its closure.

The site has reverted to undeveloped rangeland. Satellite imagery shows the faint, overgrown outline of a single dirt runway. The land appears to be used for grazing or is simply vacant, consistent with the surrounding rural landscape of Huerfano County. There are no remaining airport facilities like hangars or buildings, and the strip is completely unusable for aircraft.

The airport holds no known historical significance. The identifier 'US-10482' is a non-standard code used by some third-party databases and is not an official ICAO or FAA designation. 'Cholla Airport' was almost certainly a private, unpaved landing strip associated with a local ranch or landowner. Operations would have been limited to light, single-engine general aviation aircraft for personal or agricultural use, such as transportation or surveying the property. It was never a public or commercial airport.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Cholla Airport. The region's general aviation needs are served by the nearby Huerfano County Airport (ICAO: K4V1). As the land is privately owned, any reopening would be at the sole discretion and expense of the current landowner for their own use, which is considered highly unlikely.
