Barnett Airport

As a small, privately owned airfield primarily used for agricultural purposes, its closure was most likely due to economic factors, the cessation of the associated crop-dusting business, or the retirement or death of its owner, W.L. Barnett. This pattern is common for small, private-use airfields from that era.

The site of the former Barnett Airport has been fully reclaimed for agricultural use. Current satellite imagery shows the land is actively cultivated as a farm field. The faint outline of the former runway is still barely discernible as a slight discoloration in the soil and vegetation, but no airport infrastructure such as hangars, buildings, or runway markers remains.

Barnett Airport was a private airfield that served as a base for local agricultural aviation (crop dusting) in Hardeman County, Texas. First appearing on aeronautical charts in the mid-1960s, it was owned and operated by W.L. Barnett. The airport featured a single unpaved, north/south turf runway with a length of approximately 2,640 feet. Its significance lies in its role as a typical example of the numerous small, private airstrips that were vital to supporting American agriculture during the mid-to-late 20th century, before the consolidation of such operations at larger public airports.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Barnett Airport. The land has been repurposed for farming, and the general aviation needs of the Chillicothe area are served by the nearby public Chillicothe Municipal Airport (T25).
