Trumbull Ranch Airport

Cessation of private use. As a private ranch airstrip, its closure was not due to typical public airport reasons. The most probable cause is that the owner of the ranch either stopped flying, sold the aircraft, or no longer found the airstrip necessary for personal or business operations. It simply fell into disuse and was not maintained.

The site has reverted to ranchland. Satellite imagery shows the faint, overgrown outline of a single north-south grass or dirt runway in the middle of a pasture. The land is completely integrated back into the surrounding Trumbull Ranch for agricultural use (grazing). The airstrip is unmaintained, unmarked, and entirely unusable for any aviation purposes.

The airport's significance was purely private and local. It served as a private airstrip for the Trumbull Ranch, a large cattle operation in the Nebraska Sandhills. Operations would have consisted of light, single-engine aircraft (e.g., Cessna or Piper models) used for personal transportation and supporting ranch activities. This could include surveying the vast and remote property, checking on fences, locating cattle, or providing quick access to the remote ranch, which is a common practice for large agricultural enterprises in the region. It held no public, commercial, or military significance.

None. There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airstrip. As private property, any reactivation would be solely at the discretion and expense of the landowner. Given that it has been defunct for over a decade and there is no commercial or public demand for an airport in this remote location, its reopening is considered extremely unlikely.
