Fortmeyer Airport

Abandonment and conversion back to agricultural use. As a small, private airstrip, it was likely closed after it fell into disuse by its owner. The economic value of the land for farming evidently surpassed its value as an airstrip, leading to it being reclaimed for cultivation.

The site has been fully reclaimed for agriculture. Modern satellite imagery shows the land where the runway once existed is now part of a larger, cultivated farm field, likely irrigated by a center-pivot system. There are no visible remnants of the runway, hangars, or any other airport infrastructure.

Fortmeyer Airport was a private-use general aviation airstrip. Its name suggests it was owned by and served the Fortmeyer family farm on which it was located. It consisted of a single, unpaved north-south runway. Its operations would have been limited to small, private aircraft, potentially for personal transportation or agricultural purposes (such as crop dusting access or farm management). It held no major commercial or military significance and primarily served as a personal convenience for its owner.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening this airstrip. The land has been fully integrated into active farmland for nearly two decades. The aviation needs of the Goodland area are served by the public Goodland Municipal Airport (Renner Field - KGLD), making the redevelopment of a private, defunct dirt strip highly improbable.
