Approximately 1968-1970
The airport was closed due to its relocation and replacement by a new, improved facility. A new Blaine Municipal Airport (the current K4W6) was constructed immediately to the south with a longer, paved runway and better infrastructure to meet modern aviation needs. The original airport had a short, unpaved runway and was operationally limited.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped and is now an industrial and commercial park. The land is occupied by several large warehouses and business facilities. There are no visible remnants of the original runway or airfield structures.
The original Blaine Municipal Airport, also known as Peace Arch Airfield, was a small general aviation airport established sometime between 1934 and 1942. Its most significant role was its designation as an official 'Airport of Entry' right on the US-Canada border. This allowed it to handle private international flights from Canada, with customs and immigration services available by prior arrangement. It primarily served private pilots and small aircraft. In the 1960s, it was operated by the Port of Bellingham and featured a single turf runway (14/32) approximately 2,100 feet long.
There are zero prospects for reopening this airport. The land has been permanently repurposed for industrial use, and the aviation needs of the Blaine community are fully served by the active Blaine Municipal Airport (K4W6) located at the adjacent site to the south.
