Figure 1 Ranch Airport

The airport was a private airstrip exclusively serving the Figure 1 Ranch. It was not officially 'closed' by a regulatory body but rather fell into disuse. The most probable reason is that it was no longer needed by the ranch's owners. This can happen due to a change in ranch ownership, the owner who was a pilot ceasing to fly, or a shift in the operational or transportation needs of the ranch, making a private airfield economically or practically unnecessary.

The site is an abandoned and unmaintained airstrip on the private property of the still-active Figure 1 Ranch. The faint outline of the north-south dirt or grass runway is still visible from the air and on satellite imagery. However, the land has reverted to its primary purpose as rangeland for cattle grazing and is not used for any aviation activities.

The airport's significance was directly linked to the operations of the large and historic Figure 1 Ranch in the Texas Panhandle. When active, it served as a private landing strip for single-engine or small twin-engine aircraft. Its operations would have included transporting the ranch owners, business associates, and guests. It may also have been used for agricultural aviation purposes, such as aerial surveys of the vast ranch property, monitoring cattle herds, or rapidly transporting parts and personnel to remote locations on the ranch, which would have been a significant logistical advantage.

There are no known public plans or prospects for reopening the Figure 1 Ranch Airport. Any decision to reactivate the airstrip would be entirely at the discretion and expense of the private owners of the Figure 1 Ranch for their own use. There is no indication of any intent to do so, and it is highly unlikely it would ever become a public-use facility.
