Approximately 2012. The airfield was a private facility whose primary user and co-owner, Jerry D. Copeland, passed away in March 2012. While an exact official closure date is not published, satellite imagery from the following years shows the runway becoming progressively overgrown and repurposed, indicating operations ceased around this time.
The closure was due to the death of the airfield's co-owner and operator. As a private-use airport, its operation was tied directly to its owner. Following his passing, the airfield was no longer maintained for aviation purposes.
The site is now private land that has been fully converted back to agricultural use. The former grass runway is no longer visible or maintained and has been integrated into the surrounding farmland, likely used as a hay field. A hangar located at the south end of the former runway appears to still be standing, though it is likely used for farm equipment storage or other non-aviation purposes.
J & C Antique Airfield, formerly registered with the FAA as 7KY8, was a private turf runway activated in August 1993. It was owned by Jerry and Carolyn Copeland. Jerry Copeland was a pilot and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and the airfield's name suggests its purpose was to support the hobby of flying, restoring, and maintaining vintage and antique aircraft. The airfield featured a single 2,200-foot grass runway (18/36). Its significance was not commercial or military but was as a personal hub for the antique aviation community in the Hardin, Kentucky area.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The land has been repurposed, and its existence was tied to its previous owner. Re-establishing an airport on the site would be a new private undertaking and is considered highly unlikely.
