Circa 2014-2016. The airport was a private field whose owner and operator, Joseph A. Di Stefano, passed away in March 2014. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway appeared unmaintained by 2016, and by 2018, the land was being prepared for new construction.
The closure was a direct result of the death of the owner/operator. As a private-use airfield, its operation was dependent on its owner. Following his passing, the property was sold and repurposed for economic reasons.
The site of the former airpark has been completely redeveloped and is now occupied by a commercial solar farm (Lyle Road Solar Project). All aviation infrastructure, including the runway and hangar, has been removed to make way for rows of solar panels.
Di Stefano Airpark was a private-use general aviation airport. It consisted of a single turf runway, approximately 2,000 feet long (oriented 18/36), and a small hangar. The airport was owned and operated by Joseph A. Di Stefano, a local pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). Its operations were exclusively for personal, recreational flying by the owner and likely invited guests. It represented a classic example of a small, private grass-roots American airstrip.
There are no prospects for reopening. The land has been permanently and fundamentally repurposed for commercial energy generation. Reverting the site to an airport would be economically and logistically infeasible.
