Klenawicus Airfield (US-0767/NY03) in Shelter Island, New York, is a privately-owned, private-use airfield. It is located approximately one mile east of Shelter Island on 18 acres of land.
The airfield features a single unpaved turf runway, designated 02/20, with dimensions of 1,700 by 200 feet (518 x 61 meters) and an estimated elevation of 20 feet. Permission is required prior to landing.
Historically, the Klenawicus family farmed potatoes and raised poultry on the property, with aviation activities commencing in 1936 by brothers Joe and Frank Klenawicus. The Klenawicus family played a significant role in Shelter Island's aviation history, including the first flight from the island in 1935. The airfield was nicknamed "Klenawicus International Airport" after a local pilot, Sid Stiber, completed an international flight from the strip in 1967. The Town of Shelter Island acquired the land in 2011 to preserve the aquifer, maintain the island's aviation history, and ensure continued use for air delivery, Medevac, and other emergency services. The airfield does not have a control tower and no fuel is available on-site.
