The airport was closed between 1987 and 1993. It was still listed as an active airport in the 1987 Flight Guide but was no longer depicted on the 1993 World Aeronautical Chart. Aerial photography from 1995 confirms the site had been completely redeveloped by that time.
The airport was closed for economic development. The land was acquired and repurposed to create the Estill County Industrial Park South, which was seen as a more valuable use of the property for the local economy.
The site of the former airport is now the Estill County Industrial Park South. All traces of the runway, taxiways, and aviation facilities have been completely obliterated. The land is now occupied by large industrial buildings, most notably a major manufacturing and distribution facility for the apparel company Carhartt, Inc., along with associated infrastructure like access roads and parking lots.
Originally known as Irvine-Ravenna Airport and later as Estill County Airport, this was a public-use general aviation airport established around 1965. It served the communities of Irvine and Ravenna in Estill County, Kentucky. The airport featured a single paved asphalt runway (18/36) that was approximately 3,200 feet long. It was a vital asset for the rural community, supporting private and business aviation, recreational flying, and potentially emergency services. It accommodated light single-engine and some twin-engine aircraft, connecting the area to the national air transportation system.
There are zero prospects for reopening the airport at this location. The site has been permanently and completely redeveloped for industrial use, making any return to aviation activities impossible.
