The heliport was closed following the relocation of the Anaheim Police Department's Air Support Unit to the nearby Fullerton Municipal Airport (KFUL). This move to a dedicated, full-service airport provided superior infrastructure, including proper hangars, maintenance facilities, and fueling services that were not available at the rooftop location.
The site is the rooftop of the active Anaheim Police Department headquarters building. Satellite imagery shows the original helipad markings have been removed, and the area is now occupied by rooftop equipment such as HVAC units. The site is no longer used for any aviation operations. The Anaheim PD's Air Support Unit continues to operate from its current base at Fullerton Municipal Airport.
The Anaheim Police Heliport (US-0069) was the original base of operations for the Anaheim Police Department's Air Support Unit, famously nicknamed 'Angel'. Established in 1970, the heliport was located on the roof of the police headquarters at 425 S. Harbor Blvd. For approximately 20 years, it was the launch point for all of the department's airborne law enforcement missions, which included aerial patrols over the city and its major attractions like Disneyland, suspect searches, surveillance, and general air support for ground units.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The police department's aviation unit is well-established and more efficiently based at Fullerton Municipal Airport. Re-establishing a rooftop heliport would be logistically complex and operationally redundant, making its reopening highly improbable.
