The airport features a dirt runway measuring 1646x20 meters (5400x66 ft) with a heading of 067-247°T. Historically, the airfield had a grassy runway of 1,305 meters long. While it once offered connections with Astana, its current known use primarily involves airplanes for mosquito-spraying missions. In 2006, imagery revealed 35 Antonov An-2 aircraft and a maintenance facility, suggesting agricultural or utility aviation uses.
Stepnogorsk itself was a closed city during the Soviet era due to its role in uranium production and biological weapons programs. An Antonov AN-24RV aircraft accident occurred at Stepnogorsk Airfield in 1989.
