Approximately late 1990s to 2000. The airfield was rendered obsolete and closed upon the construction and opening of the new, adjacent Bursa Yenişehir Airport (ICAO: LTBR).
Replacement and redundancy. A new, larger, and more modern facility, Bursa Yenişehir Airport (LTBR), was built just a few kilometers to the east to serve both military and, eventually, civilian purposes. The opening of this superior airport made the older, smaller airfield unnecessary.
The site has been largely redeveloped for industrial use. A significant portion of the former airfield grounds, particularly to the south and west of the old runway, is now occupied by the large Şişecam Automotive Glass Factory. The original runway is still clearly visible on satellite imagery but is in a state of disrepair and is not used for any aviation purposes.
The airfield, identified by the unofficial ICAO code TR-0304, was a former Turkish Air Force military airbase. It served as the primary military aviation facility in the Yenişehir area before the construction of the current airport. Its operations would have included military training, logistics, and support, likely handling smaller military aircraft such as trainers and light transport planes. It is the direct predecessor to the modern Bursa Yenişehir Airport.
None. The prospects for reopening are virtually zero. The site has been permanently repurposed with major industrial infrastructure, and its original aviation functions have been fully and effectively replaced by the modern Bursa Yenişehir Airport (LTBR) operating nearby. There are no known plans or logical reasons for its reopening as an airfield.
