Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately between 2013 and 2015. The airstrip was visibly inactive in satellite imagery leading up to the G20 Antalya Summit in November 2015, and the land was subsequently redeveloped shortly thereafter.

Reason for Closure

The closure was driven by a combination of heightened security measures and strategic land redevelopment. The primary catalyst was the 2015 G20 Antalya summit, held in the nearby resort area of Belek. A small, private airfield like Kadriye posed a significant security challenge for an event hosting numerous world leaders. It is widely understood that the airstrip was permanently closed as part of the extensive security preparations for the summit. Following this mandated closure, the owner opted to repurpose the valuable land for a new commercial venture rather than seeking to reopen it under stricter regulations.

Current Status

The site of the former airstrip has been completely and permanently redeveloped. The land where the runway, taxiway, and apron once stood is now occupied by the Gloria Sports Arena. Opened in 2015, this is a large, modern, and comprehensive sports training complex with over 50 sports disciplines, including multiple football pitches, an athletics stadium, and indoor/aquatic centers. The facility is used by professional sports clubs and national teams from around the world for training camps. No trace of the original airstrip remains.

Historical Significance

Kadriye Airstrip, often referred to as Gloria Airstrip, was a private airfield owned and operated by the Gloria Hotels & Resorts group. Its primary function was to serve as an exclusive amenity for the group's luxury hotels and golf resorts in the Belek-Kadriye region, a major tourist hub. The airstrip catered to high-net-worth individuals, VIPs, and celebrities, allowing them to arrive via private jets, small turboprop aircraft, and helicopters, bypassing the much larger and busier Antalya Airport (AYT). It featured a single asphalt runway (approximately 1200 meters / 3937 feet) and a small apron/terminal area, enhancing the prestige and convenience for guests of the associated resorts.

Reopening Prospects

There are zero plans or prospects for reopening the airstrip. The land has been permanently repurposed with the construction of the multi-million dollar Gloria Sports Arena. Re-establishing an airfield at this location is infeasible as it would require the demolition of this major, operational sports complex.
