The airfield did not have a formal, documented closure date. It gradually fell into disuse over time. Analysis of historical satellite imagery indicates it was still defined and possibly usable in the early 2010s but shows significant overgrowth and lack of maintenance by the mid-2010s. It is considered to have been effectively closed around 2014-2015.
The closure was due to economic factors and obsolescence. The airfield was primarily a utility strip for the Karacabey Stud Farm. Its main function was likely for agricultural aviation (crop dusting), a practice that has become less common or has been replaced by more efficient ground-based methods. Furthermore, improved road infrastructure in the region negated the need for a private airstrip for light transport.
The site is currently part of the active agricultural land of the TİGEM Karacabey Agricultural Enterprise. The former unpaved grass/dirt runway is no longer maintained, is heavily overgrown, and has been effectively reclaimed for agricultural use. While its faint outline is still visible on satellite imagery as a long, straight scar on the landscape, it is completely unsuitable for any aviation operations and is likely used as an access track or pasture land.
The airfield was a private airstrip that exclusively served the historic Karacabey Stud Farm (Karacabey Harası), a major state-owned agricultural enterprise managed by TİGEM (General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises of Turkey). Its primary operation was supporting agricultural aircraft, such as those operated by the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK), for crop dusting and pest control over the vast farmlands. It may also have been used for light general aviation aircraft transporting government officials, veterinarians, or important clients related to the farm's world-renowned horse breeding operations. Its significance is tied to its role in the modernization of agriculture at one of Turkey's most important state farms during the mid-to-late 20th century.
There are no known official or unofficial plans or prospects for reopening the Karacabey Hara Airfield. The original purpose for the airstrip no longer exists. The land is fully integrated into the operations of the state-owned farm, and regional air transport needs are met by the much larger Bursa Yenişehir Airport (LTBR). Reopening is considered highly improbable.
