Karabiga Airport

The closure was a result of economic abandonment. As a small, unpaved airstrip, its operational costs likely outweighed its utility for its private owners. This type of airfield, often used for agricultural purposes, is commonly abandoned when the need ceases, the owner can no longer maintain it, or the land becomes more valuable for other developments.

The site is no longer recognizable as an active airport. The land has been repurposed for industrial and agricultural use. A large solar power farm has been constructed on the western portion of the former airfield, covering part of the old runway. The remaining outline of the runway is completely overgrown, crossed by farm tracks, and has been absorbed into the surrounding agricultural fields.

Karabiga Airport was a small, private airstrip ('pisti' in Turkish) with a single unpaved runway. Its primary function was to support local agricultural aviation, serving as a base for crop-dusting aircraft operating in the fertile Biga Peninsula. It had no terminal, hangars, or significant infrastructure and never handled commercial passenger or cargo flights. Its importance was purely local and functional, supporting the region's agricultural sector.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. A reopening is considered extremely improbable due to the permanent redevelopment of the land with a solar farm. The cost to acquire the land, dismantle the solar installation, and reconstruct a runway would be prohibitive. The region's air transport needs are served by the nearby Çanakkale Airport (IATA: CKZ, ICAO: LTBH).
